Facebook announced today on The Facebook Blog that they would be adding working hashtags to their ever-growing list of capabilities.
While many of you (#youknowwhoyouare) have already been using hashtags in Facebook, it’s mainly been to entertain yourself with your own wit.
With this roll out, those tongue in cheek categorizations will now mean something: Clickable hashtags allowing easier categorization of topics.
For example #NBAfinals will link to discussions also dropping that hashtag, identical to twitter. Most of you are probably not strangers to this concept so we’ll save you the details but generally what this means for marketers
• The ability to search for specific hashtags via the Facebook search bar
• The ability to click on hashtags that originate from other services, like Instagram
• The ability to create new posts from within the hashtag feed and search results
• The ability to add hashtags to Facebook ads you’re running
Happy hashtagging! #hashtagoverloadiscoming
